How We Print, and Custom Orders

We take printing very seriously, and are always working to refine and improve our printing methods. 

Currently we print all prints A2-sized and smaller ourselves, with a Canon imagePROGRAF wide-format printer, which uses 11 separate shades of Canon Lucia Pro pigment-based ink (plus a "chroma optimiser" which is not used for our prints). We only use original Canon inks in our printer. 

For paper, we mostly use Hahnemühle Bamboo, a 290gsm certified-archival paper made of 90% bamboo fibres and 10% cotton. This paper has a lovely slightly-off-white tone and a very subtle texture, giving character to our prints - and also has a lower ecological footprint than standard cotton rag paper.

We also use other papers by Hahnemühle, Canson, Moab and other manufacturers for some sizes of print (mostly square and A3+ prints), while we complete our transition to Bamboo paper. 

Whatever paper we use, our prints will last many decades without fading or discolouring, provided they are properly displayed or stored. We dispatch our prints in acid-free packaging, but we don't recommend this for long-term storage. 

For larger prints, we use some of the best commercial giclée printers in the UK, and use either Hahnemühle Bamboo or Photo Rag paper. 

All our interior prints are produced using a colour laser printer on high-quality paper. This gives a great balance between quality, longevity and speed. We can also print any interior menu image with our main giclée process - get in touch by email at hello@vintagemenuart.co.uk for this. 

Borders

All our prints come with a white border around the image, for ease of framing. Our "standard" border for A4-sized prints is 2cm, and 2.5cm for larger sizes - however, because our menus come in such a wide range of shapes and sizes, some borders may be as small as 1.5cm, in order to maximise the size of the image on the paper.

Custom Orders

We're very happy to produce prints to a custom size, or with a particular border, at no extra charge (for a custom size, prints will be charged at the next-largest size).

We can also amend or rework prints according to your needs, including personalised additions, colour-matching, etc. For this, there may be an additional charge depending on the request.
