Le Berkeley, Paris, 1950s

£20.00

Opened in 1920 on Avenue Matignon in Paris’s “Golden Triangle” around the Champs-Élysées, Le Berkeley has been a popular spot for decades, frequented by Greta Garbo, Marlène Dietrich and Jean Gabin among others. This menu probably dates from the 1950s, judging by the prices. We’re not 100% sure who the artist is: we believed the illustration was by Charles-Henry Bizard (1887-1954), but the signatures on this menu don’t match his more famous work. The restaurant continued to use this art well into the future.

Le Berkeley is still going strong, and now features interior design by Pierre-Yves Rochon. A number of prominent chefs worked at the restaurant over the years, including Alain Senderens, Joël Robuchon, Henry Faugeron and Daniel Raymond.
